Darrell Botts I worked under Norb Berghoff there at Wayne Home Equipment back in the early 70's. He was a very nice man. So was his son Bill which also worked there.

Ginger Lortie-Salas Darrell Botts ...Did you work with Yvonne Lortie...Rhoades? Ray Fink??
Manage
Reply1d
Darrell Botts Ray Fink yes, and later on became friends with him again when we crossed paths at the Eagles Club where I am a member. Yvonne, maybe if I saw a picture I would remember, but the name doesn't sound familiar. I worked there part time from 1971 to 1973, mostly in shipping and drove their truck local.

Renee Procise I posted this yesterday;but it disappeared. This Berghoff sign was painted on the south side of E.A.Reim Plumbing & Heating formerly located at W.Dewald & S.Calhoun.
It was an advertising sign painted on E.A.Reim’s building.
It is NOT from the old brewery buildings.

The pic on the right side is the north side of the building. The pics are listed on The Ghost Sign Index.

John M. Current I checked yesterday and you are right, there is no part of the remaining buildings at Falstaff that stand that tall. However, there are traces of white paint over red brick and arched windows, just like your photo. The buildings to the west of the property are the oldest and they are where the Berghoff Brewery sign was. Bergstaff Place is the tallest structure remaining from the part built in the early 20th Century, perhaps 1906; I believe I was told. There is a basement below Bergstaff, the main floor and the roof goes all the way up to what would be a second floor roof. The structure that made up the second level floor was removed to make the Bergstaff Place more open and spacious. The building on the east end is by far taller than anything else on the campus but it was built in 1964. The area between the east edge and the west edge was built sometime after the original part and before the canning plant on the east edge.

David C Roach we should bulldoze the Bergstaff& area- so Indiana tech can put in a soccer stadium-
especially that blighted eyesore Cemetery - it wouldnt be the first time fort wayne mass relocated a bunch of graves; and also- that blighted eyesore german heritage s
ociety building- like what is that? other than a speculative site blocked until someone wants to put either another used car pawn lot; or convenience store or parking garage for the soccer stadium?-
or how about a fairly huuge beer tent beer garden building? GERMANFEST ALL YEAR ROUND?- then we can use the former german cemetery & bulldozed bergstaff for parking?-
either is fine with me-
& the Bergstaff can simply relocate somewhere else- closer to downtown-maybe the vacant lot on superior where the bug infested rescue mission rests- that will make a swell vacant lot- on superiors?- its like that old kids game- where you slide the tiles around the board until they are all in order?
As anIRISHMAN- & in keeping up the spirit of the canal day s rivalry betwen the germans & IRISH & the GERMANS contrbutions to world progress in the middle 20th century- I can think of nothing better than cleansing our blighted history of the GERMANS & their stbbornly militant world order- to cleanse the GERMAN IS TO CLEANSE THE CITY OF MARX- A GERMAN & MARXISTS AS WELL-

ok- im trolling you all- all in good fun- got oyouall wound up like a FOX NEWS FAKE NEWS TRUMP REPORT DIDNT I ? OH

David C Roach IM ALSO POKING FUN AT HOW FORT WAYNE CITY GOVERNMENT LEADERS & OTHERS ARE PLAYING THAT TILE GAME- if we bulldoze this we can put this here; then relocate this here to there& then we will have another site ready; etc- a massive game of 3 card MONTE- or guess the ball under the cups game- see ITS MAGIC!

David C Roach oh- and I suppose how they came in at midnight & shipped the Falstaff brewery off to China - lock stock & barrell in the dead of the night-
Another huuge money machine for bringint in tons of cash to fort wayne- - all this great water we have an abundance of clean fresh potable water- and now we are struggling with 50 or so piecemeal tiny distelleryes & breweries- home made; craft brews; microbreweries- gots to show- you r history is your destiny- if you dont demolish it first?-
but how much of thiese beers are exported to other Scotties bringing in cash to fort wayne? as it is ist just all a zero sum game-
I just read a report about VISIT fort wayne- & where al our tourism is coming from?- its allINDIANA so we are just playing 3 card Monte- shuffling cash from here to there & ultimately- all back to INDY - for all the hundreds of millions of dollars we have spent on giveaways corporate welfare creating jobs- well& selling fort wayne- we should have visitors in mass numbers from all over the USA; and europe at least- but anywhere else too-
unless you own a bar brewery music venue or hav e the capital to buy one - or start one up-well- dude - youre screwed- its zero saum here too- the rich all own the aofreementioned businesses- because first they are rich; then they can afford to buy "hobby businesses- then all the money goes into their bank accounts-
imnot unhappy- im just trying to find something to put my cash into & not lose it all-
best place if you have money to invest is a bank- your own account- because if you have a sum of business invest in that; and it fails for a thousand different ways;well- youshoulda put it in the bank- you know?

John M. Current HEY DUDE- I didnt say anything about demolishing the old falstaff building- current mechanical etc-
if you all werent there it would be demolished a LOONG time ago- - so maybe someday- there will be another brewery- chinese investors avoidng beer tariffs? lol-
and you all can re locate to the largely vacant summit park out north- for one huuge vacant former industrial site-
you know- if the old GE buildings- if they would just fix the roofs; fix the wondows- keep the pipes from all freezing & bursting- and then powerwashing; cleaning de-toxicifying the innards- get a bunch of kids hoimeless derelicts unemployed- to scrape chip & paint the interiors- its win win win- that project has inflated from 50- 65 K- all the way up to numbers ive read as high as 500K and more-? what theheck dude?-
ditto for theriver north - why cant they just detoxify the areas where its the worst- start with the worst 5 acres- for example-
everything here requires cash & projects on an epic STALINIST INDUSTRIAL SCALE- think small- smaller- start small- then keep picking away at it- chipping away- Like me-
ive been chipping away over the years learning the internet; fort wayne history; the former industrialists & so on-
i know a LOT-
oh- speaking of a LOT- the now vacant bower building we had to rush to demolish & the parking lot- - that will sit vacant & idle for a decade mark my words- -
paving the streets? - better buy an SUV with HUUUGE tires- it will be like 4 wheeling-
expect all this MAGICAL DISNEY LAND ITS A MIRICAL ISNT IT MIRACULOUS- unveiling of everyting alla t ones just before the may 2019 & nov 2019 elections!!- - like look how wonderful our city government has been (withour money)-
if ihad a billion dolars I could buy fort wayne s downtown; & do the same thing- but OPM is so much better. -
s- John John M. Current
no disrespect-
I just have lived in FTW for 50 years; Ive seen all the fraud & waste & so on- rackets- its like FTW has been dragged back to the crooked corrupt crime infested 1980's- east coast waste businesses- - importing east coast garbage to jay county ( & who owns that?)- and crooked cops who cant truly clean up the city because the minute steve reed tries to take a DENT out of crime hell be replaced- we have an imperious intransigent little prick in the public safety board; a racketeer- and a political hack or two- we have the same sort of imperious intransigent immature little prick in th emayors office- whopromised to rent a condo in the harrison & now committed homestead tax exemption fraud - 1929 jessie ave- (former daisy BB playewr; his home on schomburg- which is now a business as well- did he do all the zoning planning building dept- state licensing etc? or his wife?- & i could tell you lots of tales to make thins so interestante- ( the dos xx commercial) lol-
